Thursday, April 17, 2008 Similarities between J.D. Salinger and my cat Salinger
Both are well known for their reclusive nature and struggle with unwanted attention. Neither have a college degree. Both understand the frustrations of having an over-protective mother. Both despise phonies. Both are always crying about something. Both need to get a real job. Both are accomplished in communicating adolescent alienation and loss of innocence. Neither will publish "Hapworth 16, 1924". Both are crazy and/or brilliant. Both pretty much do nothing all day long. Both have published the same amount of books (since 1965). posted by Eric at 11:06 AM

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 You’re Invited
Follow these easy steps: 1. Wear warm clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. 2. Bring some gardening tools (rakes, shovels, yard waste bags, etc.). 3. Pray for good weather (with out ceasing if possible).
Thursday, March 27, 2008 FOR ALL THE BEAUTY THERE MAY BE
Por toda la hermosura
For all the beauty there may be I’ll never throw away my soul; only for something I don’t know that one may come on randomly.
In savoring a finite joy the very most one can expect is to enfeeble and destroy our taste, leaving the palate wrecked; for all the sweetness there may be I’ll never throw away my soul; only for something I don’t know that one may come on randomly.
A generous heart will never care to go part way; it won’t be cowed if there is passage anywhere, but set out on the hardest road; nothing can cause it misery, and with faith soaring like a cloud it feeds on something I don’t know that one may come on randomly.
One who suffers the pains of love from contact with the holy being will find himself abandoning old tastes and killing remnants of all taste—like one who feverishly rejects the food he sees, although he longs for something I don’t know that he may come on randomly.
Don’t be surprised by all of this, and let your taste remain as dead for it will lead you to a bed of evil far from any bliss; for every living being is seen to be relentlessly alone and feeds on something I don’t know that one may come on randomly.
And once the will has felt the mark of the divinity, it can- not be repaid by any man; only the Lord can heal the dark; His beauty is of such degree as to be seen through faith alone, tasted in something I don’t know that one may come on randomly.
With such a lover as the Lord tell me if you will be in pain, for His love is devoid of taste among the things made in this world. Without a foothold you must seek Him out—no face nor form, alone— tasting there something I don’t know that one may come on randomly.
And don’t look to your inner eye (though of a vastly greater worth) to find among the joys of earth a happiness and ecstasy; more than all beauty there may be or may have been or can be now, one feeds on something I don’t know that one may come on randomly.
Whoever cares to do his best should look for what may still be gained, not what already is obtained, and he will see the higher crest. and so to reach the utmost peak I always shall be moved to go largely to something I don’t know that one may come on randomly.
On earth you never must rely on what the senses understand or all the knowledge you command, although it rises very high. No grace nor beauty there may be will make me throw away my soul; only for something I don’t know that one may come on randomly.

Monday, February 25, 2008 Re:Generation 2008 Photodoc and Report
Hello Sons and Daughters Issachar!*
Thank You I just wanted to personally thank you for attending Re:Generation 2008. It was great to see 180 young adults come from all over the Central Territory to experience God’s Word and worship Him together.
Re:Generation was a powerful experience through which we heard Kay Arthur and Commissioner Christine MacMillan preach about living in God’s Word and carrying His light into the world. We were challenged by the Bill Booth Theater Company and led in worship by The Singing Company. We grew in wisdom and perspective because of the heartfelt “mentor moments” as well as the scripture memorization that took place during the united meetings. It was powerful because you opened yourselves up to the Word of God and put yourselves in a position to help Him rescue a suffering humanity.
We also—as a result of the offering on Sunday—raised $665.64 dollars, money that was given to the Wilcox Home, a Salvation Army Corps sponsored social justice initiative that houses teens who have been estranged from their families. Praise God!
Next Year’s Re:Gen Re:Generation takes place over President’s Day weekend. Plan to attend next year, February 13-15th. Now that you know what to expect, invite your friends (ages 18-29) to come with you. Represent!
Re:Gen Photos We have a whopping 564 photos from Re:Generation that are hosted on our Flickr account. Click here to view the slideshow.
Want to save some of these photos or update your Facebook profile pic? I know you do. Follow these instructions: Click here > Click the picture you want to save > Click the “ALL SIZES” magnifying glass (above the photo) > Select the size you want to download > Click “Download…”

What’s Next For Young Adults? -Attend your Division’s Youth Councils. Youth Councils are a great time for you to reconnect, refocus and be inspired in your walk with the Lord. It’s also an awesome opportunity for you to give back by impacting those who are younger than you in a mentor relationship. Think you’re too cool to attend your Youth Councils? Think again. Nothing is cooler than authentic discipleship.
-Come to the Central Territory Youth & Commissioning Weekend, June 6-8th at the Star Plaza. This Youth Congress is made especially for you! Special Guests include: Caedmon's Call, Dr. Bill Ury, Great Lakes Youth Band, Joe Castillo, Ronnie Caldwell and The Singing Company (who will debut their new full-length album called “The Mercy Seat Sessions”). These Youth Congresses don’t come along every year. Make sure you are present for the experience.
-Be a part of the CBLI Young Adult Track, July 26-August 3rd. The CBLI Young Adult Track may be the best kept secret in the Territory. This intimate group meets for worship, Bible study and fellowship each day during CBLI. As a result, powerful connections are made and a strong sense of community is formed with a group of peers who understand where you are on your journey. Registration is extremely limited (only room for 50) so make sure you get your paperwork in early! The early bird fee for this track is $220.00, that’s a steal!
A Final Word You are perfectly known and perfectly loved by God. Be faithful. Stay close to Him and in times of doubt, ask God to give you perspective (start by asking: “Who made the heavens and the earth”). Read His Word so that you will know how to understand the times and know what to do*. And in the words of Kay Arthur, “Hangeth thou in there, baby.”
Grace, Eric Himes Territorial Director of Young Adult Ministries
